Q3: Comparing the countries with the number of resellers?

A3: There are many resellers worldwide including "illegal" resellers. In addition, there were no clear articles or data that illustrates the number of resellers in the world. There were some articles about the numbers of retailers, but the word "retailers" and "resellers" have slightly different meaning. Although it is impossible to determine which country has the most resellers, but astonishingly, according to the National Tax Agency surveyed 1,877 cases for the administrative year for individuals conducting Internet transactions and found that 89.5% (1,680 cases) were undeclared. This means that there are many cases exist that have not been declared, which may mean that more illegal activities are really taking place.

Q18: Are there any platforms that are reseller friendly?

A18: Mercari: This is a flea market application based on the concept of "buying and selling items no longer needed between individuals," reselling unwanted items is a legitimate transaction as the concept requires. Since there is no continuity and it is not for business purposes, a Secondhand Dealer License is not mandatory. If there is a case where the product is considered illegal, it is when the unwanted item is a prohibited item such as a fake or a copy. Moreover, this application is mainly used in Japan and most of the people have no problem communicating others without seeing them face-to-face. In some case, there are some illegal resellers that sells products that are resold in higher price compared to original price. (There are specific rules of which products are allowed to be sold in this platform.)

Q22: Is it considered reselling to sell items labeled not for sale?

A22: Basically, if a product is marked as prohibited for resale or prohibited for display, there is a risk of a warning from the manufacturer of the product or suspension of the account on the official online shopping site. Nevertheless, from a legal standpoint, it is considered acceptable to sell or resell the product. (This is a surprising fact but would recommend not resale those products that are labeled "not for sale". For example, those situations occur when you watch a movie that is popular worldwide.)

Q24: Why are resellers seen as "bad people"? 

A24: Resellers make a profit on the difference between the purchase price and the selling price. If they are able to purchase their products at a lower price than their own stores, consumers will buy from the reseller. As a result, sales at the company's own stores will decrease. Furthermore, people have experienced or had a feeling of anger towards the illegal resellers because the consumers did not have the opportunity to buy the products that they really wanted. This may be one of the cause of resellers seen as "bad people". 

Q28: How do resellers buy many products that are limited?

A28: According to this video that is above, McDonalds in Japan have been collaborating with many famous characters or anime such as "Demon Slayer" or "Chiikawa". If the consumers buy one happy set meal, they will get one item that is collaborated with the character. Surprisingly, there was a collaboration with "Demon Slayer" and McDonalds in 2021 and they had a rule of " 5 per customer" but only lasted for a short term and did not function it well. Resellers were easily able to buy products without any limit and immediately resell it again in flea market.
